Our Boat
Jim living at Dromana gives us access to whiting, schnapper flathead and all the other bay fish. I go fishing to relax not fight monster kingfish at the heads or chase the gummies. I love just drifting along hauling in the flatties. At about $35/kg in the shops they are good value. We could have a discussion on which is the tastiest bay fish but I'm not going to budge. Once you have caught a few of these and mastered the filleting secret they are a delight to take home and fry in butter. Other than that, trout and redfin in the lakes, another tasty fish.
Let me at them, Dan!

I have to agree with you on the flathead.
I cut in after the pectoral fin, along the spine towards the tail, then stop just before the tail and flip the fillet over then take the skin off by pulling from the gill.
Hard to explain but fast once you get the hang of it.

That's it Jim, pulling it off leaves the bones on and loses some meat but you can take 10 a day per person so that still gives you a few feeds. If you continue the skinning with the knife after the flip over you get much more meat and it's very easy to pick out after cooking.
When we are allowed out again I'll do a little video, well Mrs SHV will, and post it here.
